Boca Juniors have confirmed their intention to pursue Roma star Paulo Dybala, with club director Marcelo Delgado calling the potential transfer a “mix of dream, illusion, and reality.”
Boca Juniors have set their sights on a sensational move for Paulo Dybala, openly admitting their ambition to bring the Roma forward back to Argentina in what would be one of the most emotional transfers in South American football.
Speaking to local media, club director Marcelo Delgado described the pursuit as both “a dream and a reality”, confirming that Boca are prepared to make a major effort to sign the World Cup-winning forward. “Dream, illusion or reality? Dybala is a mix of all of this,” Delgado said. “We hope to be able to make the necessary effort to bring him here, regardless of whether there is a possibility or not. The only thing I know is that his contract expires in June 2026. We will evaluate the situation and see what happens.”
While Dybala remains an integral part of Roma’s attack, speculation around his future has intensified amid the absence of contract renewal talks. His current deal allows him to begin negotiations with foreign clubs from January 2026, potentially paving the way for a dramatic free transfer to La Bombonera.
Boca president and club legend Juan Román Riquelme has long dreamed of reuniting elite Argentine stars with their home clubs, having already lured Edinson Cavani back to South America. Dybala is seen as the next marquee target — one capable of elevating Boca’s profile across the continent. Yet, Delgado admitted that the move’s financial feasibility remains the “illusion” part of the equation, as Boca would require Dybala to accept a significant wage reduction to make the deal possible.
The club’s hopes, however, are boosted by the presence of Leandro Paredes, Dybala’s close friend and World Cup-winning teammate. Paredes rejoined Boca last July after leaving Roma and has become one of the club’s most influential figures — both on the field and behind the scenes. He has reportedly been “driving Dybala crazy” about joining him in Buenos Aires, joking that his daughter already refers to the Roma star as “Uncle Paulo.”
Dybala, 31, continues to play a vital role for Roma under manager Daniele De Rossi, but Boca’s public declaration has placed pressure on the Italian side to secure his future. For now, the Argentine forward remains focused on the Europa League clash with Celtic, but Boca’s interest has turned what was once a rumour into a story of real intrigue.
As Delgado put it, the transfer may be a mix of “dream, illusion and reality” — but in football, such dreams have a habit of coming true, especially at La Bombonera.
