Oliver Kahn plans a football comeback by exploring ownership of Bordeaux, aiming to revive the once-great French club from the fourth tier.
Oliver Kahn, the former Bayern Munich CEO and iconic goalkeeper, is reportedly exploring a return to football—not on the pitch or in management, but as an investor and owner. The German legend is in talks to take over Bordeaux, a once-great French club now languishing in the fourth tier after bankruptcy.
The historic club, which boasts six Ligue 1 titles, is struggling in the Championnat National 2, sitting fourth in their group, 11 points behind the promotion spot. With their rich history and dedicated fan base, Bordeaux remains a potential goldmine for investors despite their current dire circumstances.
Kahn is reportedly teaming up with Jacques-Henri Eyraud, the former president of Olympique Marseille, to lead the club’s revival. Speaking about the potential takeover, Kahn stated:
"Discussions about my involvement with Bordeaux are at an early stage. That’s all I can say for now."
The move marks Kahn’s potential return to football after leaving Bayern Munich in April 2023. His departure from Bayern came after internal disagreements and criticism over sporting results and transfer decisions during his tenure as CEO.
This venture into ownership would represent a significant shift for Kahn, who has previously been involved only in administrative and managerial roles in football. A successful revival of Bordeaux could not only restore the club’s glory but also bolster Kahn’s legacy as a visionary football leader.
