Boštjan Cesar is set to take on his first solo coaching role at Maribor, following the anticipated departure of Ante Šimundža.
Boštjan Cesar is on the verge of being named Maribor’s new head coach, as Ante Šimundža prepares to leave the club. Slovenian sports outlet Ekipa confirmed the rumors, suggesting that the former Slovenian national team captain is ready to embark on his first independent coaching challenge.
Cesar, who has occasionally stepped in for national team coach Matjaž Kek in recent years, has shown a strong aptitude for leadership and management. He previously hinted at his openness to coaching in the Slovenian league, stating in an interview with Nogomania, “I’m open to all options, but I’m only interested in clubs with organized conditions.”
Maribor, widely regarded as one of the best-structured clubs in Slovenia, presents a fitting opportunity for Cesar. As a respected assistant to Matjaž Kek, he now has a chance to prove himself at the helm of Slovenia’s most successful club.
