NFL legend Tom Brady clashed with a Birmingham staffer over a “stupid” opinion regarding David Beckham ahead of the club’s high-profile match against Wrexham, as shown in a new documentary.

Tom Brady didn’t hold back when confronted with a questionable call about David Beckham in the new Amazon Prime Video documentary “Built in Birmingham: Brady & the Blues.”
The moment came ahead of the 2024 ‘Hollywood derby’ between Birmingham City and Wrexham, co-owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. The game took place at St Andrew’s in September and ended in a 3-1 victory for the Blues. Brady, who is a co-owner of Birmingham, was joined in the stands by Beckham for the event.
In a behind-the-scenes scene, Brady suggests preparing a gift bag for Beckham, including club gear like a sweater, hoodie, scarf, and hat. A club aide dismisses the idea, saying Beckham has “no affiliation” with Birmingham. Clearly annoyed, Brady snapped back: “That’s f*cking stupid! Give him a gift bag to take home! It’s a sweet thing. He doesn’t have to wear it.”
Interestingly, McElhenney did receive a gift — a personalized Birmingham shirt — and responded with his trademark humor, joking: “What am I supposed to do with that?”
The scene captured the tension and humor behind football's growing American ownership, especially as both Birmingham and Wrexham continue their rapid rise through the English football pyramid.
Both clubs earned automatic promotion last season. Birmingham secured the League One title with a record 111 points, while Wrexham also climbed into the Championship. Their rivalry is now set to continue in the second tier, with both clubs spending aggressively in the summer window.
