Brandon Williams has left Hull City by mutual consent after making only a five-minute appearance, following a long absence from football and a suspended prison sentence for dangerous driving.
Brandon Williams has been released by Hull City after making just one appearance for the club, lasting only five minutes.
The 25-year-old joined the Championship side in August after spending 14 months without a club and going almost 20 months without playing competitive football.
Williams featured only once, coming on as a late substitute against Blackburn Rovers. He had not been named in a matchday squad since November.
Hull City confirmed his departure in a brief statement.
“Hull City can confirm that full-back Brandon Williams has left the club by mutual agreement. We would like to thank Brandon for his efforts and wish him all the best for the future,” the club said.
The defender’s career was derailed in May 2025, when he received a 14-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, after being convicted of dangerous driving.
The court heard that Williams crashed his Audi A3 at nearly 100mph on the A34 in Cheshire in August 2023, colliding with another vehicle before hitting the central reservation.
Prosecutors stated it was fortunate nobody was seriously injured or killed. Williams admitted he had been trying to impress a passenger. He was also banned from driving for three years and ordered to complete 180 hours of unpaid work.
Once considered one of Manchester United’s brightest academy prospects, Williams broke into the first team under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer during the 2019–20 season.
He went on to make 51 appearances for the club before loan spells at Norwich City and Ipswich Town. He left United permanently in 2024 when his contract expired.
Earlier this year, Williams admitted how difficult his absence from football had been.
“It hurts watching football because I just want to be there,” he said. “I miss the dressing room, the travel, the winning. I want that feeling again.”
His spell at Hull City was meant to mark a fresh start. Instead, it ended quietly, underlining how far his career has drifted from its early promise.
