Slovenia midfielder Tomi Horvat has joined Bristol City from Sturm Graz, signing a long-term deal to play in the English Championship.
Slovenia international Tomi Horvat has taken a major step forward in his career by completing a transfer to Bristol City, where he will compete in the English Championship.
The 26-year-old arrives in England after several standout seasons with Sturm Graz, where he established himself as one of the Austrian Bundesliga’s most influential players following his move from Mura. Both clubs confirmed the deal, with Horvat signing a contract that runs until June 2030.
Bristol City currently sit ninth in the Championship standings and remain firmly in the hunt for a place in the play-offs, with Horvat expected to add creativity, energy and experience to their midfield.
Trophy-laden spell in Austria
During his time at Sturm Graz, Horvat won the Austrian Bundesliga twice and lifted the domestic cup on two occasions. In Slovenia, he also tasted success with Mura, winning both the league title and the cup. Earlier in his career, he developed at Maribor, before moving abroad.
On the international stage, Horvat has earned 12 caps for the Slovenia national team, becoming a regular option in midfield.
Horvat: “I’m ready for this challenge”
Speaking after completing the move, Horvat addressed Bristol City supporters:
“I’m very happy to have signed for Bristol City and I can’t wait to get started. The Championship is a strong and highly respected competition. I’m well prepared and convinced that we have a big second half of the season ahead of us. I hope I can help the team push towards the higher places in the table.”
Bristol City’s next test comes on Saturday at 16:00, when they travel to face Hull City, currently third in the Championship and owned by Acun Ilicali.
