Bruno Fernandes could soon face one of the biggest decisions of his career. According to reports from England, Al Nassr are preparing a major offer for the Manchester United captain as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.
It is a familiar story for the Portuguese midfielder, who has already rejected approaches from Saudi Arabia over the past two summers. This time, however, the interest comes from the reigning Saudi champions, who are reportedly determined to persuade him with a salary package that would dwarf his current earnings in the Premier League.
The situation has an added layer of irony because Fernandes once wrote the now-famous phrase "Dreams can't be bought" on Instagram while criticising the proposed European Super League. The quote quickly became a favourite among football fans and is still regularly posted in the comments whenever speculation links him with Saudi clubs.
If he accepted Al Nassr's proposal, Fernandes would reunite with fellow Portuguese stars Cristiano Ronaldo and João Félix, who are already key figures at the club.
The timing also makes the situation particularly interesting. Fernandes is under contract with Manchester United until the end of next season, meaning this summer represents the club's final opportunity to receive a significant transfer fee before he becomes eligible to leave on a free transfer.
By the time his current deal expires, the midfielder will be 32 years old. United therefore face an important decision between cashing in now or risking losing one of their most influential players for nothing.
At the same time, the club have genuine reasons to believe Fernandes could stay. After several difficult years, Manchester United are coming off a much more encouraging campaign and head into the new season hoping to challenge for major trophies again.
English reports claim Al Nassr are already putting together an attractive financial package and that Fernandes will soon receive an official proposal containing figures that will be extremely difficult to ignore.
