Arsenal have started negotiations to extend Bukayo Saka’s contract, with the 23-year-old potentially becoming the highest-paid player in the club’s history.
Arsenal have officially begun talks over a new contract for Bukayo Saka, with reports suggesting he could soon become the club’s highest-paid player ever.
According to BBC, the Gunners’ hierarchy are determined to secure the long-term future of their biggest star, despite Saka already being under contract until 2027. The club's urgency comes amid the 23-year-old’s injury absence, which coincided with Arsenal falling out of the Premier League title race.
Record-breaking contract on the horizon?
Saka currently earns £10 million gross per year, but his new deal is expected to bring a significant pay rise. If Arsenal match their highest earners, Saka’s salary could exceed that of Kai Havertz, who is the club’s best-paid player at £280,000 per week (£14.5 million per year).
The biggest contract in Arsenal’s history still belongs to Mesut Özil, who earned £350,000 per week at the peak of his tenure. Saka is now in line to surpass even that figure, further cementing his status as the club’s most valuable asset.
Arsenal’s homegrown hero
Having emerged from Arsenal’s youth academy, Saka has become the club’s most influential player, with 67 goals in 250 appearances. His contract extension is seen as a priority for the club, as they look to build their squad around him for the foreseeable future.
With negotiations underway, Arsenal know that failure to secure his long-term future is not an option.
