Zagreb's Kranjčevićeva Stadium to become Dinamo's temporary home in 2026 as the city invests €44 million in a UEFA-compliant facility. Maksimir's reconstruction to follow.
Dinamo Zagreb is set to relocate to Kranjčevićeva Stadium in 2026 as the City of Zagreb begins a €44 million project to modernize the venue. The move comes as preparations are made to demolish the aging Maksimir Stadium and construct a new state-of-the-art home for Dinamo by 2028.
A UEFA-ready Stadium
Zagreb Mayor Tomislav Tomašević confirmed the reconstruction plans, stating that construction will begin in early 2025, with completion expected by September 2026. The revamped Kranjčevićeva will expand from its current 5,350 seats to 11,163, meeting UEFA Category 4 standards, enabling it to host Champions League matches up to the semi-finals.
"We’re excited to share the new Kranjčevićeva Stadium project. It has been a long process with many hurdles, but the project is now moving forward. A building permit has been secured, and the procurement process starts today," said Mayor Tomašević.
Modern Facilities and Design
The new Kranjčevićeva Stadium will feature:
- Fully covered stands
- A hybrid heated pitch
- Modern LED floodlights to replace the current reflectors
- State-of-the-art spaces for players, staff, and technical support
The project is valued at €35 million (excluding VAT), totaling around €44 million when taxes are included. The stadium is being fully funded by the city’s budget.
Once completed, Dinamo Zagreb will temporarily play its home matches at Kranjčevićeva, as will the Croatian national team. Meanwhile, Maksimir Stadium will be demolished, with a new Dinamo stadium scheduled to be completed by 2028.
This ambitious project not only provides a temporary solution for Dinamo and Croatia’s footballing needs but also represents a significant upgrade to Zagreb's football infrastructure, ensuring the city remains a key hub for domestic and international matches.
