Carlo Ancelotti has revealed why he turned down the chance to coach Italy, insisting his commitment to Brazil and the country's warm welcome made the decision an easy one.

Carlo Ancelotti has explained why he rejected the opportunity to become Italy's national team coach, choosing instead to continue leading Brazil despite strong interest from the Italian Football Federation (FIGC).
The 67-year-old was the FIGC's preferred candidate after another turbulent period within the Italian national team setup. However, Ancelotti decided his future remains with the Seleção, where he feels he still has unfinished business.
Italy's former technical director Paolo Maldini recently revealed that Ancelotti and Pep Guardiola were the federation's top targets. Both approaches ultimately failed, leading to further changes within the federation. Maldini stepped down from his role, Claudio Ranieri became technical director, and Roberto Mancini was appointed as Italy's new head coach.
For Ancelotti, taking charge of his home country would have completed a remarkable journey. He began his coaching career as an assistant to Arrigo Sacchi with the Italian national team between 1992 and 1995.
Despite the emotional appeal, the former Real Madrid, AC Milan and Chelsea manager insisted he never seriously considered leaving Brazil.
"It's not a contract issue. That's not the reason. I have a commitment to the CBF and to this country because this country has welcomed me so warmly during this first year. I want to stay here," Ancelotti told ESPN.
The experienced Italian also thanked the FIGC for its confidence but stressed he believes remaining with Brazil is the right decision.
"I thanked the Italian Federation, of course, but I want to stay here because I believe it's right and fair to remain in a country that has welcomed me so warmly, at an institution that has allowed me to work."
Ancelotti's long-term future is already settled. Before the 2026 World Cup, he signed a contract extension that ties him to the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) until June 2030.
His attention now turns to building Brazil's next generation. Ancelotti will lead the Seleção through the upcoming CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers, the 2028 Copa América and preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, where he hopes to guide Brazil back to the top of world football.
