Real Madrid has officially announced that midfielder Dani Ceballos (28) has suffered a significant injury. "After tests conducted by Real Madrid's medical team, Dani Ceballos has been diagnosed with a grade 3 sprain affecting the ligaments in his right ankle," the club stated.
This latest injury further depletes Real Madrid's midfield, with Ceballos expected to be sidelined for six to eight weeks. Manager Carlo Ancelotti now faces additional challenges, as key midfielders Jude Bellingham and Eduardo Camavinga are already out due to injuries.
As a result, Real Madrid will be left with only four fit midfielders until the end of September: Aurelien Tchouaméni, Federico Valverde, Arda Güler, and Croatian captain Luka Modrić. Modrić is likely to see an increase in playing time during this period.
Ceballos joined Real Madrid in 2017 for €16.5 million from his boyhood club Real Betis. Since then, he has made 150 appearances, scored seven goals, and contributed to three Champions League victories, with a two-year loan spell at Arsenal in between.
