The Green Brigade, a passionate Celtic supporters’ group, once again showed their unwavering support for Palestine during a Champions League match, despite repeated fines from UEFA.
Celtic fans continue to display their strongest support for Palestine during difficult times. Match after match, they raise banners dedicated to the Palestinian cause, accompanied by Palestinian flags. Last night’s Champions League match was no exception.
Despite UEFA’s consistent punishments, Celtic fans remain undeterred. Over the years, the club has paid numerous fines for pro-Palestinian messages, including a €19,000 fine in November simply for displaying Palestinian flags in the Champions League.
Fully aware that another fine was likely, Celtic fans once again combined Irish and Palestinian flags with a powerful message that quickly went viral:
"You can oppress, you can imprison, but you will never break the spirit. Gaza, Jenin, Tulkarm, Nablus, you will never walk alone," read the message.
Interestingly, during a recent Scottish Premiership match against Hibernian, Celtic fans shared another impactful message that resonated across the football world. In contrast to the stance of much of Europe on the refugee crisis, they boldly stated: "Refugees, welcome," while also flying Palestinian flags.
On the field, Celtic began their Champions League campaign in spectacular fashion, defeating Slovan Bratislava 5-1, with five different players getting on the scoresheet.
