Chelsea have collected 69 cards in 28 Premier League matches, and Liam Rosenior warned players must improve discipline if they want to secure a Champions League spot.
Chelsea faces a growing discipline issue at a critical stage of the Premier League season.
The London club have already received 62 yellow cards and seven red cards in just 28 matches. Those numbers place extra pressure on a squad chasing a Champions League place.
Head coach Liam Rosenior made his frustration clear.
"I will have to start selecting those players who show the most progress in discipline. You can hardly afford to play regularly with one player less."
Chelsea sit sixth after two draws and one defeat in their last three league games. While certain scenarios might still open a Champions League path, relying on external outcomes carries risk.
Rosenior insisted that improvement must come from within the squad.
"You can't have a good season like that. The players must show how to improve. The key is for everyone to take responsibility. Teammates can help, but the individual must react. Pedro apologised after the Arsenal game, but this must not happen again."
The test continues this weekend with a visit to Aston Villa, who currently occupy fourth place. After that, Chelsea travel to Wrexham in the FA Cup.
If discipline does not improve, their European ambitions could fade quickly.
