Chelsea have hijacked Manchester United’s move for Geovany Quenda, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. Reports confirm that the Sporting Lisbon wunderkind has agreed to join the London club.
United had identified Quenda as a key target, hoping to bring him to Old Trafford in the summer, with manager Ruben Amorim—who played a key role in the teenager’s promotion to Sporting’s first team—being a major factor in their pursuit. However, Chelsea moved quickly and are now set to win the race for his signature.
Although the financial details remain undisclosed, Romano reports that Quenda will not move to Chelsea until 2026, indicating that he will likely stay at Sporting for further development.
The talented 17-year-old midfielder has already established himself as an important player for Sporting’s senior squad, making him one of the most sought-after young prospects in European football.
Chelsea have been aggressive in securing elite young talent in recent months. Quenda will follow in the footsteps of Kendry Paez and Willian Estevao, two highly rated teenage stars from Ecuador and Brazil, respectively, both of whom are set to arrive in London this summer.
With this signing, Chelsea continue their strategy of acquiring the world’s best emerging talents, further strengthening their long-term project.
