Chelsea has signed 17-year-old Geovany Quenda from Sporting CP for €51 million, with potential add-ons pushing the total fee to €100 million.
Chelsea has once again invested heavily in young talent, winning the race to sign 17-year-old Geovany Quenda from Sporting CP. The London club has agreed to pay a €51 million fixed transfer fee, but the total cost could skyrocket due to bonus clauses that might add another €50 million, potentially making this a €100 million deal—the highest sale in Sporting’s history.
A record-breaking deal in Portuguese football
According to A Bola, €25 million in bonuses is easily achievable, which would at least match Bruno Fernandes’ record transfer to Manchester United. If all performance-based clauses are met, Quenda’s move would surpass any previous Sporting CP sale.
As part of the agreement, Quenda will officially sign for Chelsea this summer but will remain at Sporting on a one-year loan, allowing him to continue his development in Portugal. He will sign a seven-year contract, with an option for an additional year.
Chelsea beats competition for the "next Cristiano Ronaldo"
The young forward has already been compared to Cristiano Ronaldo, with speculation about an imminent call-up to Portugal’s senior national team. Chelsea had to fend off interest from Manchester United, where coach Rúben Amorim—who promoted Quenda to Sporting’s first team this season—was eager to bring him to Old Trafford.
With exceptional potential and comparisons to Portugal’s greatest footballer, Quenda’s future will be closely watched as Chelsea continues its aggressive investment in young prospects.
