New Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim informs Christian Eriksen he won’t be part of the squad next season, marking the start of a squad overhaul at Old Trafford.
As soon as Ruben Amorim was announced as the new manager of Manchester United, it was clear that the Portuguese tactician would waste no time reshaping the squad to fit his vision. Known for his distinct playing style and preference for specific player profiles, Amorim’s arrival has brought about the expected squad clear-out, particularly targeting players nearing the end of their contracts.
One of the first players reportedly told he is surplus to requirements is Christian Eriksen, whose contract with United expires next summer. According to sources in Manchester, Amorim has already held a meeting with the 32-year-old Danish midfielder, informing him that he will not be part of the club's plans for the 2024/25 season.
Eriksen joined Manchester United in the summer of 2022 after a short but successful stint at Brentford, which marked his return to football following the cardiac arrest he suffered during the 2021 European Championship. While he has had moments of brilliance at Old Trafford and has been a key figure at times, the turbulent nature of United's recent seasons has affected his form and consistency.
Despite being included in Amorim’s starting lineup for his debut match as United manager, it seems the Portuguese coach wasn’t fully convinced by what he saw from Eriksen. However, there is no doubt that Eriksen will have plenty of suitors, as the experienced playmaker is still capable of performing at a high level.
Amorim’s decision regarding Eriksen is likely just the beginning of a broader squad overhaul as he looks to build a team in his image. With other players also approaching the end of their contracts and underperforming stars on the roster, Manchester United fans can expect further changes in the coming months as Amorim reshapes the Red Devils for the future.
