Cole Palmer faces opposition from neighbours over plans to build a private gym at his Surrey home, with a decision from the local council expected in March.

Cole Palmer became involved in an off-field dispute after plans emerged to build a private outdoor gym at his Surrey mansion, close to Chelsea’s training ground.

The Chelsea star submitted plans to construct a detached gym at the bottom of his garden. The proposed building measures 36 feet by 16 feet and stands 11 feet high, according to reports.

The plan triggered objections from a neighbouring household, who raised concerns over privacy and noise. A formal complaint has been sent to the local council.

"The proposed building is right up against our border and would require removing two mature trees. That would leave us fully exposed to the property," the neighbour said.

The objection also asks for the gym to be built closer to Palmer’s house rather than near the boundary line. The council decision is expected in March.

The dispute arrives during a key phase of Palmer’s season. The England international struggled with injury issues and limited minutes earlier in the campaign, but recently returned to action.

Palmer came off the bench against Napoli in midweek and played a decisive role as Chelsea turned defeat into victory, securing a top-eight finish in the Champions League.

Since arriving from Manchester City, Palmer established himself as Chelsea’s standout performer. New head coach Liam Rosenior views him as central to the club’s long-term project.

Recent reports linked Palmer with a return to Manchester, including interest from Manchester United, who see him as a possible successor to Bruno Fernandes. The midfielder supported United as a child.

Chelsea, however, would demand a British record transfer fee to consider a sale. Palmer also signed a long-term contract at Stamford Bridge, limiting any leverage.

Rosenior dismissed exit talk.

"Cole is very happy here. He is a huge part of our long-term plans. Injuries happen, but they say nothing about his quality," the Chelsea manager said.

Chelsea now prepare for a crucial Premier League clash against West Ham. The club sit fifth in the table, one point behind Manchester United and one ahead of Liverpool, with Fulham also close behind.

A win at Stamford Bridge would strengthen Chelsea’s push for Champions League qualification and extend Rosenior’s strong start in charge.
