Cole Palmer could sensationally leave Chelsea for rivals Liverpool, with Manchester City also interested in re-signing the Premier League’s Young Player of the Season.

Cole Palmer, one of Chelsea’s standout players this season, is at the centre of a potentially explosive transfer that could shake the foundations of English football.

The 22-year-old winger has reportedly emerged as a major summer target for Liverpool, according to English journalist Simon Phillips. In an unexpected twist, Manchester City, Palmer’s former club, are also said to be monitoring his situation.

Palmer joined Chelsea from City last summer in a deal worth around €50 million. Since then, he has flourished in West London, especially after receiving regular minutes. His breakout season saw him net 25 goals in all competitions, earning multiple individual accolades, including the Premier League Young Player of the Season award.

Despite a recent dip in form—mirroring Chelsea’s inconsistent performances—Palmer’s stock remains incredibly high. Liverpool’s new boss Arne Slot is reportedly keen to add Palmer to his title-winning squad, as he looks to reshape the team with the futures of Cody Gakpo and Luis Díaz still uncertain.

Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk have already signed new contracts, solidifying Liverpool’s core. Palmer’s arrival would add a new dynamic to their attack.

Manchester City also remain interested. Pep Guardiola initially allowed Palmer to leave, but with Kevin De Bruyne expected to exit this summer as a free agent, there may now be room for a creative return. However, it’s unclear whether Palmer would be willing to go back to a club where he never became a regular starter.

Having risen through the City academy, Palmer impressed in his limited first-team opportunities but made the switch to Chelsea in search of consistent football. His potential move to Liverpool would not only be a massive statement but also a serious blow to Chelsea’s ambitions moving forward.
