Coleen Rooney says the final ruling in her favour marks “closure” for her family, as Rebekah Vardy agrees to pay over £1.19 million in legal costs, ending the Wagatha Christie libel case.

Coleen Rooney has broken her silence following the final chapter in the high-profile Wagatha Christie legal battle, saying the ruling in her favour brings “relief and closure” after years of public and courtroom drama.

The saga began in 2019 when Coleen, wife of Wayne Rooney, publicly accused Rebekah Vardy, wife of footballer Jamie Vardy, of leaking stories from her private Instagram to the press. Vardy denied the claims and sued for libel, but the High Court sided with Coleen in 2022, ruling her claims were “substantially true.”

Now, the legal wrangling over costs has also been settled. A specialist costs court confirmed that Vardy will pay £1.19 million towards Coleen’s legal fees — in addition to a previously ordered £212,000. Coleen, in turn, will pay £135,097.50 to Vardy’s side, deducted from the overall sum.

Taking to Instagram, Coleen shared a heartfelt statement: “The ruling yesterday in my favour finally brings this claim to an end, it’s a relief and brings closure for my family and I. As I have always maintained, this claim did not need to be made or run for as long as it did.”

She continued: “I want to thank my legal team, management, friends, family, and the public for their unwavering support. I’m thankful for the way my family and team have handled it all. We look forward to moving on with our lives.”

With the courtroom drama now firmly in the past, Coleen is reportedly exploring new opportunities, including TV projects. She is also set to feature in an upcoming Disney+ documentary that promises an inside look at the Rooneys' private world.
