Cristiano Ronaldo tipped to manage Portugal or Al-Nassr after retirement

Cristiano Ronaldo may still be breaking records on the pitch, but talk has already begun about where his post-playing career could lead—possibly into management with Portugal or Al-Nassr.

The 39-year-old icon recently extended his deal with Al-Nassr, keeping him in Saudi Arabia until at least 2027, and potentially beyond his 42nd birthday. However, former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen believes Ronaldo’s intense drive and leadership could easily translate to the dugout.

“I can see Cristiano Ronaldo managing Portugal, but it depends on whether he feels he needs experience managing a club first,” Meulensteen told Poker Strategy. “His dedication and determination will follow him into whatever role he takes.”

According to Meulensteen, Ronaldo wouldn’t need to run training sessions himself, comparing his potential path to Sir Alex Ferguson’s managerial style at United: “If Ronaldo does go on to manage Portugal, he’ll need the right coaching support around him.”

Alternatively, Meulensteen sees a possible path beginning with a role at Al-Nassr or even with the Saudi national team, suggesting that Ronaldo’s future in football could remain rooted in the Middle East.

While Ronaldo has not publicly hinted at coaching ambitions, his off-field influence, global branding power, and football IQ make him a viable candidate for high-level managerial or executive roles. Others speculate he could follow the path of David Beckham or Ryan Reynolds, perhaps even buying or founding a football club.

For now, however, Ronaldo’s focus remains on scoring goals. With 99 goals in 111 games for Al-Nassr and another title chase underway, fans can expect more magic on the pitch before any potential move to the bench.
