Crvena zvezda are exploring a potential summer return for defender Nasser Djiga as the Serbian champions look to strengthen their squad for another Champions League campaign.

Crvena zvezda are already shaping plans for the summer transfer window, with one of the main ideas being the return of former standout defender Nasser Djiga.

According to Sport Klub, club officials believe the Burkina Faso international could represent a major reinforcement as they aim to qualify for the UEFA Champions League once again.

Loan situation complicates deal

However, any move would be far from straightforward. Djiga is currently on loan at Rangers from Wolverhampton Wanderers, whose relegation means they will compete in the Championship next season.

Wolves could decide to keep the defender as part of their plans for an immediate return to the Premier League, which would complicate Zvezda’s ambitions.

Scottish giants Rangers are not expected to activate a permanent option, which offers the Belgrade club a possible opening — though several factors would need to align for a deal to materialise.

Former player of the year in Belgrade

Djiga enjoyed an outstanding spell at Zvezda, where he was named the club’s best player in 2024. The powerful centre-back impressed both domestically and in European competition, including notable performances in the Champions League.

His form during that campaign ultimately earned him a significant transfer abroad, but his potential return is now being seriously considered as Zvezda seek defensive stability and experience.

Whether the move becomes feasible will depend largely on Wolverhampton’s plans and Djiga’s own future, but the Serbian champions appear keen to reunite with one of their recent standout performers.
