Damir Kreilach has parted ways with Vancouver Whitecaps and could return to Croatian football. The 36-year-old spent over six years in Major League Soccer.
Damir Kreilach has officially ended his MLS journey, with Vancouver Whitecaps confirming a mutual contract termination with the 36-year-old Croatian midfielder. The move signals the end of a significant chapter for Kreilach, who has spent the last six and a half years in the United States.
Kreilach joined Real Salt Lake in 2018, becoming a key figure and even captain during his time at the Utah-based club. In early 2024, he moved to Vancouver Whitecaps, where he continued to serve as an experienced leader in the dressing room.
“Kreilach was an exceptional leader and mentor. Many of our young players now making their mark in MLS owe a lot to his constant support and presence,” the Canadian club said in a statement, thanking the veteran for his contribution.
Before his North American career, Kreilach played for Union Berlin in Germany from 2013 to 2018. His professional journey began in Rijeka, where he made 128 league appearances and scored 19 goals.
While his departure from MLS has been confirmed, Kreilach has announced a return to Croatia, though it's still unclear whether he will continue playing or retire from professional football.
His most impactful period came at Real Salt Lake, where he scored an impressive 47 goals in 151 MLS appearances, becoming one of the club’s most consistent performers during his spell.
