Dani Alves delivered an emotional speech at a major religious event in Madrid, where he spoke about prison, faith, and rebuilding his life after his legal case.

Dani Alves has publicly spoken about the darkest period of his life during a major religious gathering in Madrid attended by more than 40,000 people.

The former Barcelona, Juventus, and Brazil defender appeared as the main speaker at the event called The Change Madrid 2026, held inside Atletico Madrid’s stadium.

The 42-year-old delivered an emotional speech focused on his time in prison, his legal battles, and his rediscovered faith.

“I spent 14 months in prison, but there Christ set me free,” Alves told the crowd.

“I don’t know what kind of prisons you are facing, but Christ can break down all walls.”

Alves also explained how his perspective on fame and football has completely changed.

“I played in front of 80,000 people, but that doesn’t impress me anymore,” he said.

“That’s where the real power is in faith.”

The Brazilian became emotional while describing how losing everything ultimately pushed him toward religion.

“I lost everything, but that’s when I found Jesus,” Alves added.

“I’m still crazy, but now crazy about God.”

The speech comes after one of the most controversial and difficult chapters of Alves’ life.

The former footballer became the center of global attention after being accused of sexual assault in Barcelona in 2022.

In 2024, Alves was initially convicted at first instance.

However, he was later acquitted on appeal after the court ruled there was insufficient evidence to conclusively prove guilt, with the principle of presumption of innocence ultimately prevailing.

The case attracted enormous media attention throughout Spain and internationally.

Alves also faced criticism during the legal proceedings after changing parts of his testimony multiple times.

Following more than a year in custody, he was eventually released on bail before the appeal process concluded.

Now, Alves says his focus has shifted entirely away from football.

“When you have Christ, you are a new creature. The old is gone. When you leave here, sin no more,” he told supporters at the event.

During his football career, Alves won 42 major trophies and established himself as one of the most decorated players in football history.

Today, he appears determined to build a very different public identity centered around faith, spirituality, and personal transformation.
