The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) is set to conduct medical tests on Dani Olmo to determine whether he sustained a knee injury following a blow he suffered in the Nations League match against Serbia.
Barcelona's recent star signing collided with Nikola Milenković during the opening match, and Spain's national team coach, Luis de la Fuente, confirmed at a press conference that the injury could be more severe than initially thought. Olmo was unable to train after the match.
Shortly after, Ferran Martinez from *Mundo Deportivo* shared on social media that the RFEF plans to investigate Olmo’s discomfort, aiming to rule out any serious joint problems for the former RB Leipzig player.
This news has raised alarm bells at Barcelona, as losing such a key player at the start of the season would be a significant setback for Hansi Flick and his team.
The EURO 2024 champion has already made a big impression in his early matches for Barcelona, scoring goals against Rayo Vallecano and Real Valladolid. He came close to scoring more, hitting the post twice against Valladolid and once against Rayo. In the first match of this international window, Olmo started for La Roja, playing 82 minutes.
It is expected that he will be rested for Spain's next game in Geneva on Saturday as a precautionary measure.
As many elite clubs have warned, the increasing demands of a congested fixture schedule are starting to take a toll on players. Barcelona anxiously awaits the results of Olmo’s tests, especially considering the current frustration over Eder Militão's injury while on duty with Brazil, which has left Real Madrid equally concerned.
