Darijo Srna revealed that Shakhtar Donetsk was close to signing Dinamo Zagreb's Martin Baturina, but the ongoing war in Ukraine halted the transfer.

Darijo Srna, currently the director of Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk, revealed in an interview that the club was on the brink of signing Martin Baturina from Dinamo Zagreb. However, the ongoing conflict in Ukraine has deterred the transfer.

"We were financially ready to make an offer to Dinamo, but the first step was to talk to him and his parents. If there was no war, I think the transfer would have been completed long ago. However, the unfortunate ongoing war is a significant obstacle in bringing players to Shakhtar, especially from Europe at this time," he added.

Alongside Srna, Mario Stanić and Marino Pušić are also part of Shakhtar's management team, overseeing the club's operations and preparations in Slovenia. The war has posed a major challenge for Shakhtar, not just in terms of player transfers but also in the broader context of the club's activities and future planning.

Srna's comments highlight the difficulties faced by clubs in conflict zones, underscoring how external factors can heavily influence football operations and player movements.

Despite these challenges, Shakhtar remains active in the market, exploring other potential Croatian players who might fit into their squad.
