David Alaba is finally ready to return to Real Madrid team training after over a year sidelined by a serious ACL injury.

According to Marca, the Austrian defender will participate in team sessions starting Monday, marking a significant milestone in his recovery.

Alaba’s injury occurred on December 17, 2023, during Real Madrid’s 4-1 victory over Villarreal. He was substituted in the 35th minute after a major blow to his knee, with initial diagnoses ruling him out of Euro 2024. Complications with joint cartilage and the meniscus further delayed his return, causing intense pain and extending his recovery timeline.

Despite the setbacks, Alaba is now fit to begin training, though fans will need to wait a little longer before seeing him back in competitive action. Relevo reports that Real Madrid plans to reintroduce the defender gradually, with regular minutes expected by March. However, an earlier return for limited playing time isn’t ruled out.

Real Madrid, facing an injury crisis in defence with Dani Carvajal, Eder Militao, and Lucas Vazquez unavailable, remains committed to managing Alaba’s comeback carefully. The club has no plans to enter the transfer market, relying instead on current squad options like Antonio Rudiger and Aurelien Tchouameni to fill the gaps until their defensive stalwarts return.

For Alaba, this marks the end of a long and challenging journey. After over a year of physical and mental struggles, the former Bayern Munich star is closer than ever to being back on the pitch.
