David Beckham reappeared at the Club World Cup with his arm in a sling after undergoing surgery for a wrist injury he sustained during his playing days with England in 2003.
David Beckham was seen in public for the first time since undergoing a secret operation to repair a long-standing injury. The 50-year-old Inter Miami co-owner had his arm in a sling as he attended the Club World Cup clash between Inter Miami and Paris Saint-Germain in Atlanta.
The operation was needed to fix a broken wrist Beckham suffered during an international friendly for England against South Africa back in 2003. The injury had caused him discomfort for over two decades.
Sporting a navy blue sling and bandages, Beckham looked sharp in a club suit and was seen smiling and chatting with former PSG midfielder Blaise Matuidi at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. "It's fine. It's an old injury that needed surgery, but it's all good," Beckham told DAZN.
The former Manchester United and Real Madrid star was also recently pictured recovering in hospital. His wife, Victoria Beckham, shared a photo of him smiling in a hospital gown with the caption: "Get well soon, Daddy," alongside a handmade friendship bracelet that read “Get Well Soon.”
Reflecting on his career and the toll it took on his body, Beckham said: "Certain parts of my body were a real mess." He also spoke emotionally about the match between his MLS side and PSG, where he ended his playing career: "It's quite an emotional match for me... I only spent six months in Paris, but it felt like 16 years. It’s a real family."
Meanwhile, Lionel Messi also opened up before the match about his struggles at PSG, saying: "I wasn’t happy on a daily basis... I felt called to come to Inter Miami because it's a club that’s growing."
