Real Madrid have reportedly reached an agreement for Inter defender Denzel Dumfries, who is expected to become the club's first signing of the summer.
Real Madrid have wasted little time addressing one of their biggest squad needs, with Denzel Dumfries reportedly set to become the club's first signing of the summer transfer window.
According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, the deal is effectively complete, with the famous "Here we go" confirmation expected after final details are completed.
The Dutch international is expected to arrive from Inter, with reports suggesting the transfer fee will be around €20 million.
Real Madrid replace Dani Carvajal
The move comes after the departure of long-serving right-back Dani Carvajal, who brought an end to a remarkable 23-year association with the club.
Finding a replacement for one of the most decorated defenders in Real Madrid history became a priority immediately after the season ended.
Dumfries appears to fit the profile sought by the club's decision-makers and, according to Spanish reports, also matches the characteristics valued by Jose Mourinho, who is still expected to become Real Madrid's next head coach if Florentino Pérez wins the upcoming presidential election.
One of Europe's leading right-backs
The 30-year-old has established himself as one of Europe's most consistent attacking full-backs during his time in Italy.
Across five seasons with Inter, Dumfries won two Serie A titles, three Coppa Italia trophies and three Italian Super Cups.
He also reached the Champions League final twice, becoming a key figure in one of the most successful periods in Inter's recent history.
His ability to contribute at both ends of the pitch has made him one of the most respected players in his position.
From Eindhoven to Madrid
Dumfries joined Inter from PSV Eindhoven and quickly adapted to Italian football.
His combination of physical power, attacking runs and experience at the highest level now appears set to earn him one of the biggest moves of his career.
For Real Madrid, the signing would represent the first major step in what could become a busy summer of squad rebuilding ahead of a new era at the Bernabéu.
