A court in Argentina has ruled that Diego Maradona’s remains will be exhumed and transferred to a mausoleum his family is building near Buenos Aires.

An Argentinian court has ruled that the remains of Diego Maradona will be exhumed from his burial site at Bella Vista Cemetery and relocated to a mausoleum that his family plans to build near the center of Buenos Aires.

Maradona, regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time, passed away in 2020 at the age of 61. His death prompted millions of Argentinians to pay their respects before his funeral. Known as El Pibe de Oro, Maradona led Argentina to the 1986 World Cup title and won Serie A championships with Napoli in 1987 and 1990.

According to Spanish media reports, his family’s goal is to create a mausoleum where Maradona can find "eternal peace" and remain close to the Argentinian people. The mausoleum, named M10, will feature a section open to the public, allowing fans to visit and honor the football legend.
