Cardoso Varela will continue his development with the club's
B team, despite expectations that he would establish himself as a regular first-team player this season.
The move marks an unexpected change of direction for one of Dinamo's brightest young prospects.
New path for one of Dinamo's biggest talents
Varela featured in European competition for Dinamo last season after arriving at the club in a transfer that attracted significant attention.
His signing sparked a battle with Porto, while Barcelona were also reported to have been monitoring his progress.
However, the youngster has not made the breakthrough many expected, prompting Dinamo to adopt a different development strategy.
According to Germanijak, Varela will now join the B team, coached by Jerko Leko, where he will compete in the Prva NL while working towards a return to the senior squad under head coach Mario Kovačević.
Fierce competition for places
Varela's route back into the first team has also become more complicated due to increased competition on the wings.
Dinamo strengthened the position this summer by signing Mislav Oršić and Dani Rodríguez, while Arbër Hoxha, Mateo Lisica and Fran Topić remain part of the squad.
The club is also reportedly considering the arrival of another wide attacker before the transfer window closes.
Development rather than punishment
Inside the club, the decision is understood to be part of a long-term development plan rather than a setback.
Dinamo believe regular competitive football with the B team will provide Varela with the playing time needed to continue his progress before challenging again for a place in the senior squad.
At just the beginning of his professional career, the club remain convinced the winger has the potential to fulfil the promise that made him one of Croatian football's most closely watched young talents.
