Nasser Djiga’s agent reveals how Crvena Zvezda almost derailed his €12 million transfer to Wolves, but the defender now aims to help the club avoid relegation.
Nasser Djiga, one of Crvena Zvezda's standout players this season, finalized his transfer to Wolverhampton Wanderers for €12 million, with the Serbian club retaining 10% of any future sale. However, the move didn’t come without its share of last-minute complications, as revealed by his agent, Marcel Veerman.
In an interview with 226foot, Weman detailed the hurdles they faced during negotiations and how Zvezda almost derailed the deal.
Zvezda's change of heart
"Since last season, many clubs showed interest in Nasser. He’s talented, serious, and his performances demonstrated he was ready for the next step," Weman explained. "But for me, it was important to let him grow, play more, and carefully analyze the options available. We had numerous calls and several meetings with Zvezda, who valued the player highly and wanted to ensure a profitable sale."
Veerman then revealed how Crvena Zvezda initially agreed to terms but suddenly pulled back, causing a frantic rush to salvage the deal.
"Negotiations were very complicated. On Sunday evening, we had an agreement with Crvena Zvezda, but they changed the terms afterward," Weman stated. "We had only 24 hours to find a new agreement with Wolverhampton and arrange the medical examinations. I'm very happy for him; he deserved this move. It was a long journey, but we finally managed to sign with Wolverhampton. I'm convinced this will be a major step forward in his career."
A key player for Wolves' survival bid
Djiga’s arrival at Molineux comes at a critical time for Wolves, who are battling to stay above the relegation zone in the Premier League. The team currently sits just above the drop zone and has the second-worst defense in the league. Djiga is expected to play a pivotal role in strengthening their backline as they fight for survival.
With his defensive prowess and composure, the 20-year-old Burkinabé international could become a key figure in Wolves' fight to remain in the top flight, marking a significant milestone in his burgeoning career.
