Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz may return to the Premier League, with Manchester City and Aston Villa reportedly interested in a potential January loan-to-buy deal.
Juventus and Douglas Luiz are reportedly open to a transfer, with Premier League clubs showing interest in the Brazilian midfielder. According to Sky Sports News, the 25-year-old could be available for a January loan move with an obligation to buy, signaling a potential return to England after his struggles in Serie A.
Since his €28 million transfer from Aston Villa, Douglas Luiz has struggled to adapt to Italian football. Injuries and limited playing time under Thiago Motta have resulted in just 13 appearances (354 minutes) this season, without goals or assists. Despite his stellar performances during his five-year stint at Villa, Luiz has yet to make an impact at Juventus, prompting speculation about his future.
Juventus, having invested heavily in Luiz—spending €28 million and including Enzo Barrenechea and Samuel Iling-Junior in the deal valued at €50 million—are looking to recoup at least €28 million from any transfer. The club is open to a structured deal, allowing interested parties to secure Luiz on loan with a purchase obligation.
Premier League suitors
Interest in Douglas Luiz is growing, particularly among Premier League giants:
-
Manchester City: Pep Guardiola’s side is reportedly searching for a replacement for Rodri, sidelined for the rest of the season. Luiz’s Premier League experience and technical ability make him a viable option.
-
Aston Villa: Luiz’s former club is keen on bringing him back, where he enjoyed a productive stint with 204 appearances and 22 goals.
-
Manchester United: Linked with Luiz as part of ongoing negotiations with Juventus over Joshua Zirkzee, the Red Devils could also explore a move for the midfielder.
