Ed Sheeran apologized for interrupting Ruben Amorim’s live interview following Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Ipswich, saying he didn’t realize the manager was being interviewed.
Singer-songwriter and Ipswich minority owner Ed Sheeran has apologized for an unintentional interruption during Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim’s live post-match interview after United’s 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town on Sunday.
Amorim, managing United for the first time, was speaking pitchside to Sky Sports presenters Kelly Cates, Roy Keane, Izzy Christiansen, and Jamie Redknapp at Portman Road when Sheeran unexpectedly joined the scene. The singer greeted Redknapp before briefly addressing Amorim, saying: "I don't think he wants to speak to me." He added: "I love being back in the Premier League."
The interview resumed after Sheeran left, and on Monday, he addressed the incident in an Instagram post, writing: "Apologies if I offended Amorim yesterday. Didn't actually realize he was being interviewed at the time. Was popping to say hi and bye to Jamie. Great game, congrats on all involved."
Sheeran, a long-time supporter of Ipswich Town, became their main shirt sponsor in 2021 and recently acquired a minority stake in the club after they earned back-to-back promotions to return to the Premier League this season.
On the pitch, Marcus Rashford gave United an early lead in the second minute, but Ipswich’s Omari Hutchinson equalized in the 43rd minute, earning the home side a valuable point.
