Terrifying scenes unfolded at the Stadio Franchi in Florence during the Serie A clash between Fiorentina and Inter. In the 17th minute, Fiorentina’s midfielder Edoardo Bove suddenly collapsed on the field during a break in play, reportedly suffering from an epileptic seizure that also led to cardiac arrest.
Immediate medical response and match suspension
The incident occurred while play was halted after an overturned goal by Lautaro Martínez. Bove had bent down to tie his shoe but collapsed shortly after standing up. Players from both teams, including Denzel Dumfries and Hakan Calhanoglu, immediately realized the severity of the situation and called for urgent medical assistance.
Medics rushed to the pitch, surrounded by players visibly distraught and in tears. Some players clutched their heads in disbelief, while others ran to urge the ambulance to speed up. Bove was quickly transported by ambulance to the Careggi Hospital in Florence for further treatment.
As the gravity of the situation became clear, the match was suspended and officially postponed to a later date. The silence that fell over the stadium was chilling, evoking memories of the tragic passing of Davide Astori, a former Fiorentina captain who died in 2018.

Initial reports from Careggi Hospital provided a sigh of relief:

The 22-year-old midfielder will undergo a series of medical examinations, including a CT scan, to assess the extent of the incident and determine the cause of the seizure. Witnesses reported that Bove exhibited spasms before collapsing.
