Ulf Kirsten, a former Bayer Leverkusen star, expresses his relief and joy as his old club finally claims the Bundesliga title, putting an end to the "Vizekusen" taunts.
Ulf Kirsten, who twice nearly clinched the Bundesliga title during his time with Bayer Leverkusen, is overjoyed that the taunts of being the "eternal runner-up" will now become a thing of the past. The legendary striker, who spent 13 years at Bayer Leverkusen, scored an impressive 182 goals in 350 matches but was consistently overshadowed by Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund clinching the titles. Now, at 58, Kirsten has witnessed his former team, often dubbed "Neverkusen" or "Vizekusen," finally reaching the pinnacle of German football.
One of the Bundesliga’s top scorers and a long-time German international, Kirsten is proud of his former club's achievement. He is especially pleased that the jibes about Leverkusen never winning the championship will vanish.
"Everyone at the club is ecstatic, tears are in their eyes. For many years, we all had to listen to claims that Bayer would never be champions. Finally, this crap can disappear!" Kirsten exclaimed.
