Chelsea and England goalkeeper Hannah Hampton shared photographs from her rare break after four demanding years featuring three major international tournaments.

Hannah Hampton, the goalkeeper for Chelsea and the England national team, has delighted her supporters by sharing a series of photographs from her summer holiday.
The 25-year-old has enjoyed a rare break after an exhausting period in which she represented England at three major tournaments across four years.
Hampton began her holiday at Wimbledon, where she watched matches involving leading tennis stars Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka.
She then travelled to Barcelona before exchanging the tennis courts and city streets for the beaches and clear waters of Zanzibar.
The Chelsea goalkeeper shared several photographs from the Tanzanian island on social media. One showed her swimming alongside sea turtles, while others captured her relaxing on the beach and enjoying the tropical surroundings.
Her followers quickly responded with positive messages after she offered them a glimpse of her life away from football.
Major success with England
The holiday followed several extraordinary seasons for Hampton, who has already collected major trophies with both England and Chelsea.
She was part of the England squad that won the European Championship in 2022 and then reached the 2023 World Cup final, where the Lionesses lost narrowly to Spain.
Hampton became England’s first-choice goalkeeper at Euro 2025 and played a decisive role as Sarina Wiegman’s team successfully defended its European title.
She saved two penalties during the dramatic quarter-final shootout against Sweden. Hampton repeated the achievement in the final against Spain, stopping two more penalties as England won the shootout after a 1-1 draw.
Her performance in the final earned her the Player of the Match award and confirmed her status among the leading goalkeepers in women’s football.
Domestic dominance with Chelsea
Hampton joined Chelsea in 2023 after her contract with Aston Villa expired. She had previously represented Birmingham City, where she established herself as one of England’s most promising young goalkeepers.
She won the Women’s Super League during her first season in London. In the 2024/25 campaign, she became the regular starter for a Chelsea side that completed an unbeaten domestic treble.
Chelsea won the league, the Women’s FA Cup and the League Cup. Hampton recorded 13 clean sheets in the WSL as the London club completed the entire league campaign without defeat.
Her performances brought the biggest individual awards available to a goalkeeper.
In 2025, Hampton became the first winner of the Women’s Yashin Trophy, presented during the Ballon d’Or ceremony to the best goalkeeper in the world.
She was also named The Best FIFA Women’s Goalkeeper later that year, completing an exceptional collection of individual honours.
Hampton has won the WSL Golden Glove in two consecutive seasons. Her 2025/26 success made her the first goalkeeper to win the award in back-to-back campaigns.
From an outfield player in Spain to the world’s best goalkeeper
Hampton was born in Birmingham but spent part of her childhood in Spain. She began playing football as an outfield player in Villarreal’s academy.
She returned to England before her 11th birthday and moved into goal one year later while playing for Stoke City.
That positional change transformed her career. Hampton developed into England’s number one and later received the two leading international awards for goalkeepers.
After returning from her holiday, Hampton travelled back to England to receive an Honorary Doctorate in Sports Science from the University of Wolverhampton.
The university presented the honour in recognition of her “exceptional achievements in football and her inspirational impact on young people across the region and beyond.”
After several seasons filled with trophies, major tournaments and individual awards, Hampton finally found time to rest. Her photographs from Zanzibar showed a different side of the goalkeeper who has spent the last year stopping almost everything that has come her way.
