Esmir Bajraktarević scores his first European goal for Jong PSV with a brilliant solo effort in a 3-2 win over Maastricht in the Dutch second division.
Esmir Bajraktarević has opened his goalscoring account in European football. The Bosnia and Herzegovina international struck a superb goal for Jong PSV in their 3-2 win against Maastricht, marking a special moment in his young career.
The 19-year-old winger joined PSV Eindhoven from New England Revolution during the winter transfer window, but has mostly featured for Jong PSV, the club’s reserve team competing in the Dutch second tier (Eerste Divisie).
While the adaptation from MLS to European football has come with its challenges, Bajraktarević delivered a reminder of his talent on Monday night. He played the full 90 minutes and scored what turned out to be the match-winning goal, and arguably the best moment of the game.
With the score level at 1-1 in the 81st minute, Bajraktarević produced a moment of magic. After nutmegging his marker, he broke free down the wing, brushed off a foul attempt as he was pulled by the shirt, and unleashed a precise long-range strike that bounced in off the post.
It was a goal that showcased his technical skill, dribbling ability, and composure — all traits that had earned him attention during his rise in MLS and recent national team call-ups.
Though his minutes have been limited to Jong PSV since the move, performances like this could help him break into PSV's first team in the near future. For Bajraktarević, this goal could be the start of a bigger breakthrough in European football.
