UEFA confirmed that Esmir Bajraktarević’s spectacular strike against Romania has been voted the best goal of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
UEFA has officially announced that Esmir Bajraktarević’s unforgettable strike against Romania has been voted the best goal of the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign. The award was decided through a fan vote, with the 19-year-old Bosnia and Herzegovina international finishing well ahead of several global stars.
Bajraktarević’s goal topped the list ahead of Scott McTominay, who scored a spectacular overhead kick against Denmark, and Kylian Mbappé, whose brilliant solo effort against Azerbaijan earned third place.
The young attacker delivered his winning strike on 15 November in Zenica, where Bosnia and Herzegovina defeated Romania 3–1, a victory that sealed their spot in next year’s World Cup play-offs.
Bosnia will now face Wales in the semi-final of the play-offs. Should they advance, a final showdown against the winner of Italy vs Northern Ireland awaits — with a World Cup berth on the line.
