Germany's footballers defeated the Scotland team 5-1 in their first match of the European Championship, played on Friday at the Allianz Arena in Munich.
Florian Wirtz scored the opening goal for Germany in the 10th minute. Jamal Musiala doubled Germany's lead in the 19th minute, and Kai Havertz made it 3-0 from a penalty in the first minute of added time in the first half. Niclas Füllkrug scored the fourth goal in the 68th minute.
Scotland reduced the deficit to 4-1 in the 87th minute with an own goal by German defender Antonio Rüdiger, but Emre Can sealed the final 5-1 score in the 93rd minute, securing Germany's most convincing victory in their European Championship appearances and the largest win by any team in a Euro opener.
Toni Kroos, playing in his last tournament, delivered a performance for the history books of the European Championships. The legendary German, who spent 80 minutes on the pitch against Scotland, made 102 passes, with 101 of them being accurate. He misplaced only one pass. Meticulous statisticians calculated that this 99% pass accuracy is the highest percentage for a player who made 100 or more passes in the Euros since 1980. Additionally, Kroos had four key passes against Scotland.
