Porto’s Diogo Costa is attracting growing interest from Manchester City, with Pep Guardiola reportedly eyeing the Euro 2024 standout as a potential successor to Ederson.

Diogo Costa could be the next big name to make the leap from Portugal to the Premier League. The 25-year-old Porto goalkeeper has caught the attention of several top clubs—including Manchester City, where Pep Guardiola is planning for a future that may not include Ederson.

Costa has had a strong season with Porto despite the club trailing far behind in the league, and his standout performance at Euro 2024 against Slovenia only strengthened his case as one of the top emerging keepers in Europe.

City's interest is serious. Guardiola is said to be monitoring Costa closely, especially with ongoing uncertainty surrounding Ederson’s future. The Brazilian goalkeeper has been open about the idea of a move away from the Etihad, and if that happens this summer, City will need a ready-made replacement.

Diogo Costa ticks all the boxes: composure, shot-stopping, distribution, and age. But he won’t come cheap—Porto have reportedly set his buyout clause at €70 million, and they are unlikely to negotiate much lower.

City are not alone. Several other European giants have shown interest in Costa, but the Guardiola factor and the Premier League pull may prove decisive.

Porto are currently fourth in the league and out of the title picture, which could ease the player’s decision to move. For now, Costa remains focused on finishing the season strong—but the summer transfer window promises to be full of possibilities for Portugal’s No. 1.
