Patrice Evra has publicly backed Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim, saying the Portuguese coach “would die for the club” and puts United’s interests ahead of his own — unlike previous managers.
Patrice Evra has come out in strong support of Ruben Amorim, insisting that the Manchester United manager is the right man to lead the club despite ongoing pressure and inconsistent results. The Frenchman believes Amorim’s passion and selflessness set him apart from his predecessors, many of whom he accused of prioritising their own reputations over the club’s future.
Evra, who spent nine years at Old Trafford and won five Premier League titles and the Champions League under Sir Alex Ferguson, told Stake.com that Amorim’s loyalty and attitude are what Manchester United have been missing. “Even in the bad times, I trust him. He’s someone right now who will die for the club. That’s my feeling with Amorim. This is someone who really puts the club first before himself. Compared to some previous managers, I feel like he is different,” said Evra.
United moved into the Premier League’s top six after their dominant 4-1 win over Wolves. Still, the atmosphere around the club remains tense following a string of uneven performances earlier this season. Evra admitted that United’s inconsistency remains the biggest obstacle to success. “Watching United, it’s like playing roulette. You never know what you’re going to get. One moment you win, the next you lose. You can never predict the result,” he said.
Despite the turbulence, Evra believes Amorim has both the qualities and the backing to steer the club back to the Champions League. “I need more consistency from United. I want to see a more consistent starting XI. The players are starting to understand his philosophy and system more,” Evra continued. “I feel Amorim has the full support of the board, and that’s really important. It could be a surprise end to the season with a top-four finish.”
United’s upcoming schedule will test Amorim’s leadership, with a run of four fixtures over the Christmas period — starting at home against Bournemouth before facing Aston Villa, Newcastle and another clash with Wolves to close out the year. They then begin 2026 with a fiery derby against Leeds.
Amorim hopes that the victory over Wolves marks a turning point in United’s campaign. “We have to build momentum. We need to reach a point where we can have 20 wins in a row. Every training session, every game is important, so we need to focus on the next one and win it,” said the United boss after the match.
With United just one point behind fourth-placed Crystal Palace, belief in a Champions League return is growing — and with club legends like Evra in his corner, Amorim’s fight for stability may just be gaining crucial support at the right time.
