In a dramatic twist to the saga of Italian football, AS Roma's dismissal of manager Jose Mourinho has sparked widespread debate.
Legendary coach Fabio Capello has condemned the club's American owners for their lack of respect towards the Portuguese tactician.
Jose Mourinho, renowned for his illustrious career across Europe's top leagues, found his tenure at Roma abruptly ended following a defeat to AC Milan, which left the club languishing in ninth place in Serie A. Despite Mourinho's underwhelming performance statistic of averaging 1.61 points per game - the lowest for any Roma coach overseeing at least 50 matches in the three-points-for-a-win era - many still believe he was steering the club in the right direction and deserved more support from the management.
The internet was flooded with emotional scenes of Roma fans bidding farewell to a visibly shaken Mourinho. The incident also prompted a response from Fabio Capello, one of the most respected figures in Italian football. Capello sharply criticized the American ownership of the club, drawing parallels to the treatment of Paolo Maldini at AC Milan.
"The American owners of these clubs show no respect for the people they work with. We saw it in Milan with Paolo Maldini and now in Trigoria with Mourinho. They have no sense of it, they are only interested in business," Capello said.
