Cesc Fabregas has accepted Inter's offer to become head coach, but Como’s owner has rejected the idea, insisting he remains a key part of their long-term project.
Cesc Fabregas has reportedly accepted an offer to become Inter Milan’s new head coach, but the deal may not be as straightforward as it seems.
The former Spain and Arsenal star, currently building his managerial career at Como, is said to be Inter's top choice to replace Simone Inzaghi after a strong season in charge of the newly promoted Serie A side. Fabregas even welcomed the Nerazzurri’s offer, but the move has immediately been met with fierce resistance from his current club.
Como owner Mirwan Suwarso issued a firm statement in response to the news, declaring that Fabregas is not leaving the club. “We have a long-term project, and Fabregas is a crucial part of it. He will not leave,” Suwarso said.
The situation has sparked tension between Inter and Como, and could also affect Fabregas' relationship with Como’s management. While the Spanish coach appears keen to take the next step in his career, Como’s leadership is adamant about holding onto him.
Meanwhile, Como are also working to strengthen their squad, with Edin Džeko reportedly close to joining the club. The Bosnian striker is seen as a marquee addition as Como prepares for its second consecutive season in Serie A, having finished tenth last year.
The coming days could be crucial in determining whether Fabregas is allowed to pursue his ambitions with Inter, or if Como will succeed in keeping hold of the man they see as essential to their Serie A project.
