Cesc Fàbregas rejected speculation about replacing Liam Rosenior at Chelsea, insisting he remains focused on Como despite the Premier League vacancy.
Cesc Fàbregas has responded to growing speculation linking him with a return to Chelsea following the dismissal of Liam Rosenior.
The former Chelsea midfielder, now head coach of Como, made his position clear as rumors spread quickly after the managerial vacancy opened.
“Nothing to say about that, it’d be stupid to think about that now,” said Fàbregas, as reported by Fabrizio Romano. “My focus is on the next game against Genoa.”
He reinforced his stance with a direct message.
“I believe I will continue my chapter as Como head coach. Focus on next games.”
The 38-year-old built a strong coaching reputation since taking charge of Como in 2023. He led the club to Serie A promotion in 2024 after a 21-year absence.
Como now sit sixth in Serie A and remain in the race for Champions League qualification. They also reached the Coppa Italia semifinals, where they lost 3-2 to Inter.
Club president Mirwan Suwarso addressed the situation before Fàbregas spoke.
“You want your employees to stay as long as possible, but we don’t own him. He’s free to go to Chelsea if he wishes.”
Rosenior’s exit came after a poor run. He lasted only 106 days despite signing a long-term deal. A 3-0 defeat to Brighton sealed his fate, extending a run of five league games without a goal, a streak not seen at the club since 1912.
Calum McFarlane will lead the team on an interim basis, starting with the FA Cup semifinal against Leeds United.
With Fàbregas ruling himself out, Chelsea continue their search. Names under discussion include Xabi Alonso and Marco Silva.
