Rio Ferdinand revealed his family is sheltering in a basement in Dubai amid regional missile strikes, describing the situation as frightening while reassuring followers they remain safe.

Rio Ferdinand has admitted he feels “scared” after missile activity in the region forced his family into a lockdown-style routine in Dubai.

The former Manchester United and England defender lives in the UAE with his wife Kate Ferdinand and their children. Amid escalating military tensions, the family moved into their basement after being advised to take precautions.

Speaking on his podcast, Ferdinand described the tense atmosphere.

"It’s frightening when you hear missiles, planes, and fighter jets above you. You want to stay calm for your kids and keep everybody as calm as possible."

He explained that the family has been sleeping downstairs, comparing the situation to a Covid-style lockdown, with home workouts and homeschooling filling their days.

Kate Ferdinand also shared an update on social media, reassuring followers.

"We are safe. The government is doing an amazing job of keeping it that way. Last night was very scary, but we are hoping for a calmer evening."

She added that their young children treated the situation like a sleepover, unaware of the seriousness.

Elsewhere in the region, other British nationals have sought shelter in underground areas as tensions continue. Former Liverpool midfielder Graeme Souness reported hearing loud bangs while stranded in Abu Dhabi.

For Ferdinand, the focus remains on keeping his family calm while uncertainty continues.
