The Rotterdam giants are set to appoint one of the Netherlands' greatest football stars of the past two decades.
Feyenoord is poised to name Robin van Persie as their new head coach, according to reports from the Dutch media. The appointment marks a homecoming for the former Arsenal and Manchester United striker, who began and ended his playing career with the Rotterdam club.
Van Persie is currently managing Heerenveen, where he took charge at the start of the season. It remains unclear whether the 40-year-old will take over at Feyenoord immediately or at the end of the current campaign.
The coaching vacancy opened after Brian Priske was dismissed just weeks before Feyenoord's Champions League Round of 16 clash against AC Milan. Despite exceeding expectations in Europe, the club has struggled in the Eredivisie, currently sitting in fourth place. Interim coach Pascal Bosshaart led the team to a memorable victory over Milan but is not expected to continue beyond this short-term role.
Van Persie is regarded as a Feyenoord legend, having scored 46 goals in 122 appearances during two stints with the club. He was part of the squad that won the 2002 UEFA Cup, Feyenoord's last major European trophy. After retiring, Van Persie began his coaching journey in 2019, gradually climbing the ranks before earning his first senior managerial role with Heerenveen.
Now, the stage is set for the former Dutch international, who scored 50 goals in 102 matches for the Netherlands, to take the next step in his career—leading the club where his journey began.
