A fire at Basel’s St. Jakob-Park caused heavy damage to locker rooms and facilities, forcing the club to postpone their match against Thun.
FC Basel has been hit by a serious incident after a fire broke out at the iconic St. Jakob-Park stadium late last night.
The club confirmed that the blaze started in the locker room area, causing extensive material damage. At this stage, the cause of the fire remains unknown.
Fortunately, there were no injuries, but the impact on the stadium infrastructure is significant.
A large part of the home dressing room has been completely destroyed, while several other areas have also suffered damage.
Among the affected spaces are the coaching rooms, the coach’s office, the team director’s office, the boot room, and the medical equipment room.
The damage to medical facilities has created immediate problems for the team.
As a result, Basel have been forced to cancel today’s scheduled league match against FC Thun, as they are unable to replace essential equipment in time.
All interior areas of the stadium have now been officially sealed until further notice.
The Swiss Football League has already approved the club’s request to postpone the match, which was set to be played against the league leaders.
In a statement released this morning, Basel confirmed that more details will be shared as soon as they become available.
For now, the focus is on assessing the damage and restoring the stadium as quickly as possible.
The club hopes to return to home matches before the end of the season, but the scale of the damage suggests a challenging recovery period ahead.
