Marc-André ter Stegen is ready to return, confirms Barcelona coach Hansi Flick, who is still unsure when the goalkeeper will be reintegrated into the starting XI.
Barcelona are set to be without Robert Lewandowski for the first leg of their upcoming clash with Inter, but there’s good news between the posts: Marc-André ter Stegen is finally ready to return after a long spell on the sidelines.
Speaking at a press conference, Hansi Flick addressed the status of both players. On Lewandowski, the coach was cautious: “I hope he’ll be available for the decisive games. We have to wait and see. We don’t know yet if he’ll be fit or not. I’d rather not say more.”
With the Polish striker sidelined, Flick could turn to Ferran Torres, who has already scored 10 goals in LaLiga this season. “He’s in a good moment in his career,” said Flick. “He’s a number 9, dynamic, works hard defensively... he’s in great form. But we need to manage him carefully because we’ll need him until the end of the season.”
Flick also responded to reports of discontent within the squad, particularly following the comeback win against Celta Vigo, where some players reacted poorly to being left out or subbed off: “I understand when players are not happy. I was a professional player myself, and I get it. Everyone wants to contribute and feel like part of the team. But I don’t understand the reactions. That’s something that has to be accepted. It was a great comeback after going behind, and we made the right decisions. I like to see players react on the pitch when given the chance.”
As for ter Stegen, Flick made it clear: “He’s ready. He’s ready. I’ll speak with him and we’ll decide the best moment to bring him back.”
