Florian Wirtz has reportedly informed Leverkusen and Xabi Alonso that his only desired move is to Bayern Munich, snubbing offers from European giants Real Madrid and Manchester City.
Florian Wirtz, one of Europe’s most sought-after young stars, has made headlines today with a decision that could reshape the German transfer landscape. According to Bild, the 21-year-old playmaker has rejected advances from both Real Madrid and Manchester City, informing Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso that his sole focus is a summer move to Bayern Munich.
The Wirtz saga draws striking parallels to that of Mario Götze back in 2013–14. Then, Götze was the crown jewel of Borussia Dortmund, heavily courted by top European clubs, only for Bayern to swoop in, securing the Bundesliga’s hottest young talent while simultaneously weakening their biggest domestic rival.
Now, twelve years later, Bayern seems ready to repeat history. Wirtz, under the guidance of his father and advisor Hans, has made it clear: despite tempting offers from abroad, his next destination should be Munich.
Negotiations, however, promise to be anything but simple. Leverkusen has repeatedly insisted that Wirtz’s price tag will shatter all previous Bundesliga transfer records. Bayern, on their end, are determined to finalise terms swiftly, ensuring Wirtz starts the 2025–26 season as a Bayern player.
With this decision, Bayern not only position themselves to add one of Europe’s brightest talents but also deliver a heavy blow to a domestic rival that has risen as their fiercest challenger in recent years.
