Cristiano Ronaldo has been advised to become a club owner, with Cheltenham Town seen as the ideal entry point into English football.

Al-Nassr superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has been advised to invest in League Two side Cheltenham Town, following the example set by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney at Wrexham.

The Hollywood duo have overseen an incredible rise at Wrexham since taking over in 2021, leading the club to three consecutive promotions and winning hearts worldwide through the documentary series ‘Welcome to Wrexham’.

Now, football finance expert Dr Rob Wilson has suggested that Ronaldo, who already boasts an extensive business empire, should explore a similar route into club ownership by targeting Cheltenham Town. Dr Wilson previously urged Tesla boss Elon Musk to consider the same club due to its "undervalued" status.

Speaking to Casino Games, Wilson said: “I’d be amazed if Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t invest in an English football team. I would imagine he’ll be trying to sniff around getting into a club like Manchester United as a strategic investment or a minority owner somehow. As I said recently about Elon Musk potentially getting involved in football, Cheltenham Town is a massively undervalued asset with great financial fundamentals.”

He continued, “If an investor wants to look at a football club, they would do no worse than have a look at Cheltenham Town Football Club because it is really positioned nicely in a list of most attractive footballing assets. The reality for Musk or Ronaldo now is, with the greatest respect, it’s pocket change to them because they are that wealthy. It can have a transformative impact on the club and bring a huge amount of benefit.”

Wilson concluded: “But I don’t really think you get that kind of investment return that you’re looking for, because you’re not looking for a few million. You’re looking for tens or hundreds of Champions League trophies that you can boast that you’re the club you’ve invested in.”

Ronaldo, who remains one of the world's most marketable athletes at 40 years old, is set to return to action on Saturday as Al-Nassr face Yokohama F. Marinos in the AFC Champions League.
